![]() At one point, Marciano claims he didn't bleed after being bit by Dracula. The Action Bronson-featuring second track, "Daddy Kane," is one of the album's more boisterous moments, but later songs bluntly describe heartlessness and alienation. ![]() Marciano's vocal delivery is similarly quick-witted but never forceful, balancing deadpan humor and clever pop culture references with stark narratives about drug dealing. The Alchemist's loops are often haunting yet leisurely, filled with dissolves and other production tricks, and even when he's chopping up vocal samples so that they're interrupted mid-breath, it hardly feels jarring and there's still plenty of space left open for the lyrics. The longtime collaborators share a similar production aesthetic, both having popularized rapping over loops with no drums or minimal percussion, and the two have a natural chemistry. Roc Marciano's first full-length with the Alchemist is an easy success. Purchase and download this album in a wide variety of formats depending on your needs.
